Warm Weather In Seattle

100 degrees in the PNW! Wow! Record breaking temps and I'm excited to see warmer than normal weather in Seattle area. I love it but keep the humidity in the mid-west please. I'm so not acclimated to it any more. Our humidity and dew point are like the Chicago area right now.

Tried running this morning and that was a colossal failure. Even woke up earlier than normal (6am) to beat the heat but didn't count on the humidity that zapped my strength and kicked in my asthma. No amount of water dumped over my head would help that.

How did I inline speed skate and race in this weather??!! There was, however, that bout of heat exhaustion I finally really experienced racing in 2002. I experienced it before that time but .. I managed. 2002 I did an inline skate race at 830am and the temp was about 80 degrees and humidity a balmy 90% or so. The pavement felt like 100. Later that same day I did a bike race and boy was that hot! 110+ degrees on the pavement. I lasted all but three/four laps to go then collapsed in an opened fire hydrant that the fire department had generously opened earlier. I didn't notice the water was cold and sat in it. Someone got help....because I may have passed out.

Glucose was about 30-40 (normal low is 70) and I was a little delirious but refused to go to the hospital. (Husband just got out of the hospital earlier that year after a bad bike crash and I didn't want to pay any more medical bills!)

Ever since then I have had heat issues. Typically in the PNW the heat doesn't include HUMIDITY. So throw the humidity into the mix and it isn't good.

I LOVE the heat just not the humidity.

The gym treadmill may work better for me.

  1. Yuck, humidity is NO FUN and has to be taken seriously for sure, especially when you're not used to it!

I hope it lets up soon!
