Lake Chelan

I had to post the last one so you would understand this post!

Once I decided not to do the 1/2 marathon (never prepared mentally for it) I entered the 10K which was the better choice. I wasn't into that either!! Drank 2 glasses of wine the night before.. one would have been good but heck I'm on vacation and not motivated. I did drink about 30 oz of water before going to bed.

The start was about 10 minutes late and I gave my water to Kayleigh (my daughter) 20 minutes prior and sent her back to the hotel room. First mistake. Giving up my water. So not into this race at this point.

I was sweating just waiting to go! Start time around 75 degrees at 830am. Once we started (I was near the front) there is a small uphill to a bigger downhill and then flat out and back. The first two miles I looked at my watch and saw 14:30ish! Second mistake, going too hard! Quick addition and I'm thinking holy crap! That pace didn't last long and every water stop I was taking two cups just to pour over my head. (The organizer was suppose to have sponges, so I was told by her). I'm sure this slowed me down as well. I was keeping pace with two much younger girls for most of the race. Turns out one was 15 years old.

The last two miles with the heat was getting to me and that is where my pace really slowed down. Some guy caught up to me the last mile -- and I stayed in pace with him just to get it over with!

I also had my 1/2 marathon number on -- and heard the announcer say "here comes the first 1/2 marathon" Noooo!!!! At the top of the hill right before the finish I'm trying to rip my number off so they wouldn't think I was running that fast! (So not the skinny anorexic runner.)

After I finished, the nice cold water of Lake Chelan really felt good. My daughter was "appalled" to see me going in with all my clothes on... and then going under to get my head wet. I sat there for a few minutes just to rub it in. Nice ice bath!

After that bath, I went up four flights of stairs and at the top I felt fine. Obviously I had more in me if I could walk up the stairs. A better attitude the night before would have helped.

We waited for my husband and his brother to finish the 1/2 ironman. Mark came into the bike transition and then his brother was about one minute behind! John didn't believe us. They are both in the same age group. A friendly brotherly competition going on!

The time was ticking away for the run and I was getting a little nervous. Last year Mark was driven in and wasn't doing so well. Finally I see him in the distance, with my bad eye sight and all. Easy to pick out because he has this really funky, weird run. Thankfully he finished well and no medical tent! Yeah! When my daughter recognizes the Doctor from the medical tent from prior years, you know it isn't good. John came up the hill about 5 minutes later!

They both dunked into the water afterward -- but Kayleigh wasn't appalled over THAT. Why?!

So results:
1st Female Master overall! (OMG!) So didn't see that coming with the time I finished with.
Time: 52:06
12th women overall and 21 overall. I love small races!

Mark: 2nd A/G in the 1/2 ironman
John: 4th A/G in the 1/2 ironman

Then on to the next day....
