Running is HARD. There, I said it. Some people say inline skating is hard.. HA! No comparison to running. At least I'm built to skate but not built to run. That is why it is so hard for me.
I cannot believe I'm doing a 1/2 Marathon -- running. Such a bizarre concept for me but I put all my past experiences into training for this. It is so cool to see that my "ideas" of training for this 1/2 marathon have turned out like it should with a few exceptions to injuries.
I have been following "loosely" Runnersworld.com Smartcoach program. I say loosely because of my injuries i.e., shoulder and foot. I also don't go to a track and practice sprinting -- been there, done that on skates. I prefer to run a fast 5K then sprints on the track. I'm not going to win any money or medals in this nor do I care to. Just personal goals will be fine with me. I'm right on track with the program. Ran 30 miles this week (how?!) it didn't seem like it but I have to thank my friend, Carrie, for joining me and making it possible.
I'm hoping my ankle/foot stays okay until after next Saturday. The cortisone shot seemed to help but putting your foot in ice water after running has to be the hardest thing I will ever do! Strongly suggested by my massage therapist and orthopedic guy. I lasted one minute for two or three tries at it. Not happening.
I ran yesterday at a 9:15 - 9:30 pace for 8.6 miles. The best part -- I feel fine today!! Tired but fine.
Here is to putting my foot on the finish line .. whatever time that is .. but hoping for a 2:10.
Next post -- Saturday after the race!
Great job on the mileage this week!
