I'm posting this just so I can remember NOT to do this 1/2 marathon again!
The race started out COLD! 39/40 degrees cold. Not used to that yet. This was my second 1/2 running marathon (ever) this year and this one had one heck of a hill. Climb of about 300+ feet in 1 mile plus. I might be exaggerating but it certainly felt hard.
I was running along fine for the first 6-1/2 miles averaging about 7:45 pace until mile 7 when we turned a corner onto this gravel road. It was all rutted for winter travel and I had one heck of a time trying to get my footing. I walked some of the hill but at one point it just went straight up. Unbelievable.
The down hill would have been fun except for the fact that the road was all torn up and "coned" while cars are zooming up and down this very narrow road.
When I finished, my shoulder hurt SO much and the pain brought tears to my eyes ... but Carrie was there to cheer me up. All it takes is an Apple and everything gets better. :)
